Default W116 Daily Driving Mileage

Hello fellow enthusiasts and connoisseurs!

I looked in my diary and realised I've travelled 1200km in the past month enjoying my 450SE.

Wonder if there are fellow members out there who regularly use their Benzes or at least find excuses to drive their Benzes?!

How many km have you done in recent months and/or years?

Happy motoring!

I've never had a W116, but I have always driven Benz's of this era as my main car. My needs have changed over the years, but more often than not my primary commute has been on public transport.

I've had as my primary car
97-02 - W123 230E, 35,000km
02-03 - W124 300E, 18,000km
03-07 & 11-16 W107 450SLC 37,000km
07-09 - W126 560SEC, 25,000km
09-11 - W126 560SEC, 18,000km
17-now - W126 300SE, 4,000km

I still have the SLC, but its now on club plates and gets about 1,000km per year. The other club plated cars normally get about 600-1000km per year.

My daily drive used to be my 690SEL.
However due to practicalities, I now drive a 2000 model CLK430 and itís a true pleasure to drive!

Hi Michel, who is the proud custodian of 690sel? I have heard much about her and seen some photos too.

Cheers Bram

Lovely collection Bryce. How do you compare the SLC and SEC?

I don't have either of the SEC's anymore, but an SEC is quite different to drive than an SLC. While the SEC replaced the SLC in the lineup, the SLC being a long SL feels very different to a 2-door S class.

The SEC is a bigger more comfortable cruiser. The 5.6 has quite a bit more power and the W126 body is a lot wider and has a more luxurious interior.

The SLC is a bit more nimble and has a more classic feel. The interior is more old school mercedes spartan.

A more interesting comparison might be 450SLC with 380SEC as they have similar power.

Over a 15 year period, I covered about 30,000 klm in my 6.9.

The 1998 E55 AMG seems to be destined for the same sort of career.

My current runabout driving is a split between a Hyundai I20, and a
1998 W202 C280 V6. A comparatively rare car, built in Bremen, not South Africa. Out of nearly 2 million W202's built, only about 40,000 of them had the (then) new M112 engine.
Very pleasant and reliable car to drive despite being 20 years old, with a little over 200 thousand kilometers on the clock.

Hello SEL_69L I am interested to know more about your V6 C280 W202 in regards to fuel consumption and any buying advice you could offer that would be greatly appreciated?

Cheers Tim.

Hi everybody.
I have owned my 6.9 for 20 years and have done about 100000km in it. I have just returned from a 600km trip in it and it still drives so well that I can't wait to go somwhere else soon. Even though it is 40 years old it is still a pleasure to drive.

Yes, love that feeling of having gone on a longish trip and wanting to just keep going. The car urges you on, beautiful armchairs to sit in.

Amazing, 100000km in 20 years, driven, used and enjoyed as intended!

Any pictures?

Cheers Bram

Personally I wouldnít choose a 116 as a daily. The main concerns would be fuel consumption, safety, parts availability, the crap drivers out there and the effects of the environment on the car.

All valid points but counterbalanced with each of us having a finite time on this planet, so we should enjoy these vehicles while we can and as much as we can?!

Had a nice drive yesterday from Sydney to the central coast in the CLK430 and returned a very satisfying fuel consumption!
