Talking Only for non Luddites

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...-transmission-

The best article I have seen on the modern Automatic Transmissions being developed. There will be no escape down the track on what to buy.
Longest Warranty will be the decider. Manufacturers only give longer Warranties when thy don't expect any claims ...

Buy Korean ?

I found this quite interesting.
I didn't understand all of it as I am not particularly knowledgeable about how gearboxes work internally, but a useful read.

Similarly, I found this article quite good, again not fully understanding all the workings:

Ate Up with Motor is a site you can lose many hours browsing.

Oh dear, I got lost when someone mentioned synchromesh....what's wrong with a good "crash" gearbox? Get the timing right and you hardly need touch the clutch! OK - luddite is within my vocabulary.
Regards,
Brian

How right you are Brain, one of my first Cars, Down Under, was a 1929 De Soto Doctors Coupe with a 3 sp crash Box. A joy to use and easily timed. I also recall overhauling a crash Box in a Ford Truck in the late Fifties, it was so easy to Drive afterwards, all the parts were available off the shelf from Ford.
