Default Nostalgias of yesteryear

Without too many words on my part - comments appreciated from enthusiasts and sentimentals.....but note the Mercedes logo on the tank and the smile sported by the driver.Just a couple more pics...

This first picture disappeared on me - as I said, take note of the Mercedes Insignia on the tank and note the smile on the driver's face...

Also note the Mercedes Benz factory building in the background and the caption that "after World War II 80% of vehicles in Germany ran on woodgas".

Sorry guys, things are a bit mumbo jumbo. See if you can make the most of it somehow. Styria

Somehow I don't think this would pass ADR (Australian Design Rules) and WorkCover would not approve either

I'm here!!

As some of you may know around mid 1944 Germany was literally pushed into the wall with the loss of the Romanian oil fields, Germany had no natural oil supplies. For such a modern and developing nation they were so dependent upon imports.

A bit hard to fight a modern war when you cannot fuel planes, tanks, trucks...cars..

The Germans being Germans tackled this impossible problem in a number of ways, developing synthetic fuel, from rubber I believe shipped in from Japan

Gas generators, coal burners, wool burners were all tried and fitted to varous cars, trucks...buses.

A few pictures I have collected

Not just Mercedes ether,

1944 VW Beetle, Charcoal Gas System

1944 Volkswagen Type 82--Wood Gas Generator

It's nice to have you back Des. The forum needs an historian and archivist.
