I agree with Michel Tim.

As I said earlier in the post.
Genuine screen
Parts warranty
Labour warranty.
Worth the trip.

Jim
With your “fine print” re NRMA, are you referring to the car being on club rego?

Brian is spot on.
You need to fight fire with fire with these companies.

I have a small but quite noticeable star chip in the front screen of my W202.
It is going to stay there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, as I write this post, the c280 (V6) is on loan, and is down in Shellharbour. A friend has it for a week.

My Hyundai i20 has also been on loan for a month, and currently lives in Penrith. My daughter is driving it.

That leaves me with the E55 AMG as a daily driver, which also includes duties as a shopping basket.

Talking Re: Windscreen Glass

Yes Fire with Fire !! I have been fighting an insurance Claim against me for 9 months. $750 for what they admit was a tiny scratch on a Bumper which I did not cause. Even the Bill was padded... remove Bumper .. repaint, $ 20 for nuts and bolts on a new car !!! etc, etc. I have refused to pay one Cent. Have reverted to tell them to >>>> off . Still they insist, with different People harassing and threatening me with Legal action. I recall that one of my Daughter's contemporaries was employed full time, as a Lawyer, by another Company to search for any loophole to deny a Claim.
Yes and Yes, we have to fight Fire with Fire.

Hello all well it seems I got it wrong as Coast Star Gosford did call back and the actual quote for the windscreen was $973 supply and fitted.

Looks like I will be getting the screen from Novus Autoglass.

Cool Re: Windscreen Glass

It seems that everybody goes to O 'Brians. Even the other majors source their Screens from them. I called into them on the North Shore today and was told that they buy from all over the World depending on availability. They will handle the Insurance Claim for me and are not required to wait for an inspection from, for example, Shannons. Shannons take their word that the claim is legitimate. The test is that anything that impedes the Drivers vision is a valid claim. It does not have to be cracked or broken in any other way. Mine is badly sand blasted with pock marks.

You may NOT have to replace the windscreen, if it is not cracked or star chipped.

I had a badly wiper scoremarked w/screen in my 6.9.
I chose not to replace it, but I DID fix it myself.
The job took about six hours of hand rubbing, using corrugated cardboard and 30,000 grade cerium oxide polishing compound.
The cerium oxide powder was mixed into a thin slurry, and rubbed onto the windscreen, using an almost supply of elbow grease.

Warning: this job is messy, you should use old clothes.

If you don't to go to as much personal effort as I did, a four inch water cooled electric polisher can be used, but the job is still messy.

Alternatively, you can hire a specialist who has the equipment and will do the job for you.

This sort of polishing effort will NOT remove non star chipped pock marks.

Warning:
This job MUST proceed with water cooling if using an electric polisher, because if you don't, localized heating of the glass can occur, and the w/screen will crack.
THEN, you will HAVE to replace the w/screen.

New Screen fitted today by O'Briens Glass at their Depot in Roseville Sydney.
Excellent Service .. Glass was a special one for the C Class with Rain Sensor .. came from South Africa. The RHD C Class cars were built there.

Did I mention that Shannons take O'Brians word for it that a Screen needs to be replaced. Mine was not cracked nor "Star" chipped, just many little chip damages seen only in a certain light and very annoying particularly if the screen was a bit dirty. A professional job by the fitter who knew his job. The screen came with the fittings for the Rain Sensor, peculiar to the Mercedes factory screen. Retail cost would have been $770.
