Default Cla 250 - 2014

Another close look at this offering from Mercedes - I must admit that I am impressed. If indeed it is close in comparison to the Golf, this one certainly does make a lot of sense. Very impressive - and it's not even the AMG version. Regards Styria

Roughly twice the price in Australia - and that is being under the threshold of the Luxury Sales Tax.
Maybe not such good value here....

Brian

I should also add that M-B is starting to lose me with their new styling. It could be a mistake to alienate too many of its existing clients in search of new ones.
Frankly, m'dear, this one does not pass muster - http://www.carsales.com.au/news/pres...3%a9-suv-43034

I'm with you here Brian, at twice the price of a MkV11 Golf ,and ,if like the
Mercedes A200/250 it does not Drive as well as the new Golf, there is no comparison.
Plus, if the lack of reliability is anything like my experience with our C 200 GLI together with our two neighbour's current model Benz I'll have a Golf .......without the Twin Clutch Automatic
But fingers crossed , the C Class has been trouble free in the second half of it's four year life. With it's strong Turbo engine and competent chassis it drives extremely well

I agree with you on the MLC Professor
If there is a car that I find truly ugly, it is the BMW X6 SUV coupe (what a stupid concept!).
Why on earth would you get a 'coupe' version of an SUV?
Why would one make a coupe version of an SUV?
All these sub-segments in t market are eating into each others'...
WHY IS MB FOLLOWING????

anyway.... rant over

The answer to the above questions as to why M-B is pursuing such a path is simple. It's greed; Corporate greed.

That's life today Brain..... It was always thus.

I can't help but agree with you guys. Whenever I have seen the Bimmer, I'm thinking "how on earth could you make it so ugly", and that sentiment would or will be similar to the Mercedes being illustrated, the Range Rover Evoque (argh....ug.ug.ugly), the Lexus SUV (don't I dislike the styling of some of those Japanese SUVs), and as far as I am concerned, you could throw them all in together (styling wise) with the Ssang Song Yong (whatever) Stavic/Stavric and decide which is the ugliest.........

As you would be aware, I have criticised some styling issues with some of the Coupes. I wish I could be more specific in relation to the model involved. Like high back, low collapsed looking front end - just all out of proportion. It's all a corporate styling theme - wait till they come to the end of this line of thinking, and all wind tunnel tests (really ?) will be blown out the window.
It's no wonder that the Koreans are edging ever so close to being the preferred option. They look every bit as good, or bad for that matter, but they have the reliability factor in their favour. However, also look at the styling of the i45 or the KIA Optima - I don't think that mercedes has anything in their price range to match them, even at double the price. The C-Class - lovely front end, the rest.......leaves me cold. There is also another, and new contender on the horizon - guess which one ?
