Default World's Largest Speeding Fine

SMH

"I think the speedo was broken". Some people just don't deserve to have cars like this.

Would it take him 500m to stop if he was really trying to stop?

If you did what we call a panic stop from 300km/h (stomp on the brakes and try and stop) you might:
1-lose it...
2-wear out your pads
3-soil your undies.

Not necessarily in that order.

But supposing he tried a near-panic stop so that he didn't lose it, didn't cook his pads and only lightly smudged his undies. Could he do that in less than 500m?

Real men don't wear undies so what would it matter?

In a modern car like a Benz, with ABS and decent tyres, he should stop in less than 500metres... but not much less..

If my memory for the mathematics is anywhere near correct after entering the Alzheimer’s era, 300 K's is roughly equal to 190mph, or about 280 ft /sec. In theory a 1g stop could be achieved in around 1230 ft, but I don't believe a standard car using normal tyres and brakes could achieve a 1 g stop from these speeds, probably lucky to get 70% of that figure. So, assuming 0.7g, to stop from 300 k/hr would take about 1780 feet, 590 yards, or a bit less than 500 metres.

This conjures up some possibilities. For instance, could the braking distance be reduced if:

1) Different tyres were used.
2) Depending on time of day, if a kangaroo or Jersey Cow or Brahman Bull hit the car head-on.
3) Head-on with big Kenworth rig........wonder how any of these would cut down on distance -- - no need to reply, I am just horsing around. Regards Styria

...or if you reply, please be kind.

The Nankangs would slip in the bull#### and crash sideways into the Kenworth (another Benz product) activating the airbags and retardant parachute enabling a safe stopping distance of 32.67 repeater metres. The driver would die from de-cellaration. The Star would fall of and get run over by a passing Bugatti.

Benz-Boy

Are undies involved?

JohnS: I like your deceleration calcs. based on G factors, high school particle kinematics I guess, and I should have been able to do the calcs. easily myself.

I another life, I was a road design technician, and the calcs. that I should have used would have been based on frictional co efficients, but the maths is no more complicated.
