Re: 350 trans keeps pushing fluid out the overflow

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the insight. What you say makes sense. I have to travel at speed for several minutes before the fluid starts coming out, so obviously the pressure is building up slowly. I...

Re: 350 trans keeps pushing fluid out the overflow

Yes, oil cooler is connected, and no reason to suspect a problem with it.

350 trans keeps pushing fluid out the overflow

This is my daily driver 1974 euro spec 350SE.

If I travel at speed (>100km/h), the transmission pushes fluid out of its breather until its about 0.5 litres below the minimum mark. As expected,...

Re: help with 722.002 trans question re K2

22 springs in total would seem a bit odd, as it will mean a group of 8 plus two groups of 7 each.

BAsed on what I saw and what happened, there seem to be only two possibilities :

a) there...

Re: help with 722.002 trans question re K2

So would you recommend that I leave out two springs (ie fit 22 in total) or fit the max (24) ?

help with 722.002 trans question re K2

Any help is appreciated, I am rebuilding a 722.002 trans from a 1980 W116 350SE euro spec.

The lock ring on B1 drum broke and came out in pieces which is what prompted the rebuild. Everything...

Re: 350SE trans failure

Interesting that you guys are advocating not disassembling the valve bodoes - I've done a few without issue - maybe I've been lucky. These units have 4-layer valve bodies.

Recently I had to...

Re: 350SE trans failure

The loose piece retrieved appears to be part of one of a locking ring. I then removed the filter and valve body to see if I could fish out any more bits :

350SE trans failure

I am about to reinstall a freshly rebuilt engine into a W116 350SE, and in discussion with the owner, we agreed that it would make sense to provide the transmission with a new filter. Due diligence...

Re: For budding Automatic Trans mechanics

I'm busy with a 350 trans at the moment, will start another thread on it.

Re: Driver's Window Regulator for RHD 6.9

styria, I've been wondering about having replica base-plates cut from steel plate, and then have it zinc coated. The cutting could be by spark etching or water-jet. Once the template is set up,...

Re: What I've been busy with

Incidentals

W123 280TE

I got roped into helping this lazy TE. Seriously neglected car, the exhaust valve tappets had nearly zero clearance. I fixed that and reconnected the vacuum lines to...

Re: What I've been busy with

Current projects :

a) W126 500SE (early car)

An early spec UK import, nice car, but with 450 000km on the clock. It presents like a car with 150 000km. The owner wants some revitalisation,...

Re: What I've been busy with

Projects that are in progress but nearly finished :

a) W116 450SE

An interesting car, Aus spec import to S.A. 450's are super scarce in South Africa. This car is straight and rust free, but...

What I've been busy with

Of late, I've become something of the 'go-to' guy for older benzes in our club. So I've been quiet on the forums. I thought it may interest people to hear what I've done recently.

Projects...

Re: Steering Box - problem solved

styria, I presume you are referring to machining the teeth on the sector shaft and working piston? THese parts are available new from the dealership, but are prohibitively expensive.

I was...

Re: Driver's Window Regulator for RHD 6.9

There are two common failure modes for the front door regulators. The end pivot tears off as per the photos at the start of the thread, and the whole allow plate twists.

My 280SE had both front...

Re: Styria's 450se

I meant no meanness by it. Certainly on the V8's access is tricky, so sighting up to ensure that the positioning of the shaft into the coupling at assembly time is tricky. WHen I've done them, I...

Re: 6.9 Steering Oddity

I grew up driving RHD 116's and 107's, and I'd not noticed this phenomenon until I got some LHD 116's - where everything is mirror image. It was obvious to me in the lefties that the column is...

Re: Styria's 450se

Good to hear it was a positive driving experience.

We all know that changing steering couplings is your favourite..... ;)
