Re: Car of the week

$1.00 buys the car but the plants in the back coast $3999.
Must be a very special type of plant?

Re: Car of the week

Am I allowed to rubbish the car ? Surely, one would have to have the hides of an elephant and a Rhino put together to advertise the car. I would be too ashamed to not only show the car, but to also show the surrounds of the property.

Mind you, there is a dismantling mob in Melbourne somewhere that advertise "6.9 parts from $1.00". I struck the worst of human kind when I telephoned them about a Starter Motor. " Do you have one, what price" ? The reply "to you $300.00" plus $50.00 delivery to Sydney. "Okay, I'll take it, can I pay you now with Paypal" ? "Ah, we've got to take it out first, we'll do it this afternoon and check it out. The boss is out to lunch but we'll get back to you in the avo".

Needless to say, I didn't hear from them - after a couple more reminder calls from me. The boss was always doing something - busy boy. Anyway, it was all bull####, because when I rang about a fortnight later, the price had risen to $1500.00 - that's a second hand starter motor. I told the guy that he was a bulls...artist and to go away and plait his sh.. ! That was well received. So maybe this beautiful car, adorned with its flowers, may well be a bargain after all. Pity the poor sod that buys it. Regards Styria

The 6.9 has an indoor garden growing on the backseat nice touch!

The 6.9 sure is in a sad state would it really be viable to restore the car has the car been under water perhaps flood damaged?

One of the flynn rovers has come up, asking $10,500. Sold for $900 at the auction. Its clear the buyer of that car has spent some good money as the car from memory was quite rough at the auction site and needed a lot of work. I suspect this chap purchased some of the interior lots to make a car and spent some money on paint.

It actually doesn't look like a bad car.

Re: Car of the week

The car has already been sold, and as a consequence, no interior pictures are available. Well yes, it would seem that he has done exceptionally well, and the car looks in nice condition. For whatever reason, some of the trim strips are missing, and this seller has had no more success in getting a perfect bonnet fit - I am talking about lining up with the back section of the front guards - same problem as I have. I suspect that the fault may well lie with the sealing rubber at the back of the bonnet. On my car(s), the rubber is rock hard and I am not game to remove it as no ready replacement is available. Regards Styria

In the ad the seller noted he had the side trim but was waiting on the clips to fit it.

the interior was a nice driver interior.

This W123 is a time capsule car with less than 20,000km and apparently history to prove this. I love the colour, pity its a 230 carby, not the best W123 model. Not sure why anyone would have fitted a towbar to a 230! Seller is asking $15k which is probably not unreasonable if the miles are true.

Interesting colour for that 230.

Shouldn’t the front spoiler been green the same colour as the car and not black?

Little tear on the drivers seat not the end of the world.

I use to have a 1982 230E the 2.3ltr 4cyl engine was very slow.

Mercedes with tow bars is the gearbox okay?

Under 20,000kms no mention of any service history on the eBay ad.

A 230E is practically a race car compared to a 230.

Re: Car of the week

This certainly is an exceptionally nice car. The front seats could do with a re-foam. Surprising, considering the low mileage of the car. I guess the time factor cannot be ignored.

I don't know about the 230 carbureted motor in this car, but I used to own a 1959 - 190 and I was quite happy with the torque and pulling power of that car. 70 miles an hour cruising speed was easily accomplished. BTW, with good Olympic Radials it handled brilliantly. Regards. Styria

Take a gander at this 1980 280CE.

Maybe the value of these older Benzís are on the way up?

Lots of things wrong with that green 230. The interior is from a latter model and looks very worn , they probably changed the speedo at the same time

Plus check out the rust around bonnet hinges
