Gents,
I seem to have missed this post and updates altogether.

Bryce,
That panel looks fantastic.
The colour matching of that Frigate Blue is fantastic.
I did have great results as well.

Ant,
A while ago I had a switch box (very nasty and complex ignition switch that controls everything including a gear lever lockout) issue with my 72 Shadow.
When traveling back to Sydney between Katoomba and Laura, it open circuited and the engine stopped, and after about 10 seconds she re started with THE loudest backfire (I guess that what happens when a 6.75L V8 that drinks fuel at the rate of 15L/100km engine does this) I have ever heard and besides giving the young lady in the convertible next to us a heart attack, it blew out the front Y piece collector completely, and immediately sounded like a V8 supercar.

I drove it for 4 weeks like this before I thought I had better fix it.
Ohhhhhhh man it sounded great.

So I can understand your conundrum about loud or quiet

For anyone interested.
Here is a link to my switch box problem.

A 560SEC ECE? There was a white one for sale recently with a red velour interior going quite cheap.

Re: 560sec ece

Today's quick job was to fix something that has been bothering me since I bought this car.
The antenna grommet was missing and the previous owner had used sealant from bunnings as a replacement. It made the car look like a real Jalopy.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...707dacbe_c.jpg

Given the proper grommet is only a couple of bucks, I bought one about 18 months ago at the same time I purchased some oil filters etc.

It only takes about 20 minutes to do the job, the power antenna must be dropped down a little, and the new grommet inserted from above. A little rubber grease makes it easy to fit.

For some reason the SEC grommet is apparently different. Either way it looks heaps better. Those type of bodges make no sense to me as the genuine part is so cheap.

Re: 560sec ece

The radiator started leaking from the top tank on the SEC, so I have a new one.
While I am at it, I have seen random warm air come on with the A/C. Looks like classic monovalve failure.

Challenge is that the genuine and Bosch monovalves are pretty much impossible to get and the alternative is a brand that is apparently rubbish.

So I have purchased a monovalve elimination kit and will attempt to fit it.

I've now got the SEC back on the road after a number of jobs done:

1) Monovalve elimination kit installed:

https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/0...inator-part-1/
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/0...inator-part-2/
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/0...inator-part-3/
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/1...inator-part-4/

2) Radiator, header tank, coolant and trans cooler hoses replaced
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/0...iator-removal/
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/1...w126-radiator/

3) Removed the cowl cover and cleaned this area, and replaced the seal against the glass and the windscreen wiper rubber boots that are now missing on most cars
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/0...6-cowl-drains/
https://www.classicjalopy.com/2020/1...6-cowl-covers/

4) Replacing low pressure hoses for SLS and PS

Iím interested in the low pressure SLS hoses. Where did you source them from? Iím not sure if theyíre the same as the HPF versions, which are a bugger being an unusual metric size, with no simple imperial equivalent. In fact the original hose may even be different sizes at each end!

Iím also very interested in the reproduction windscreen seal! Where did you find that?

For the SLS, I just used fuel hose. I found people on the forums who had good luck with it, and MercedesSource reccomend it.

On the SLS cars its quite a short length from the reservoir to the pump. Not sure if the HPF is similar.

This is the low pressure hose, so no fittings, just hose clamps.

The high pressure hose does have fittings, but I didn't have leaks from that one.

Its not the full windscreen seal, its the one that seals against the bottom of the window against the plastic cowl covers.

I got it, and the wiper shaft boots from carus parts in germany.

The seal is their item number 494644696
https://carus-parts.de/wasserableite...4696&results=1
The wiper boots are item 49444505
https://carus-parts.de/scheibenwisch...4505&results=1

Their site is a bit hard to navigate as its german only, but google translate helps and the sales people can email in english.

A friend of mine in the MBCNSW put me onto them after he showed me the nice new seal in his 420SEL. The seals are not expensive, but the shipping is quite expensive for one seal. Works better if you can get a few. Maybe youíve got a few mates in the MBCV who want them too.
