You mentioned that one of the guides was broken.
Did you have to remove that head to rectify it?

Did you do the valve guide seals yourself?

Many thanks.

I didn't tackle this one myself. It is being done by an independent Mercedes mechanic.

When I am referring to guides, I am talking about chain guides, and these can be done without the head being removed. Valve guides, on the other hand require head removal.

Seals can also be done without head removal.

Iíve had wifi the whole time at the 2 hotels we stayed at in Japan.

So posted when I could.
But most nights out entertaining customers.

A very busy week.
Here is a teaser of what we did through the very busy streets of down town Tokyo.

Hi Styria,
Iím sorry to say I donít like wearing anything on my feet without shoe laces :D

Thatís me on the right in the purple.
This is what we got up to in very busy Tokyo traffic.

Mario Karting, so much fun for a full 2 hours.
The karts go up to 60kph, and stop on a dime.

Re: 560sec ece
Oh dear; the streets are deserted. Clearly M13.5 people left town for the day.
May I be indiscreet and ask: was it your driving or your clothing that most frightened the good citizens of Tokyo?:eek::eek:

Re: 560sec ece
It was very early when we kicked off Brian, but you can see some more traffic in the other shots.

But yes, you may be right about the costumes mate.

We did do some pretty full on truck work as well during our trip.

Re: 560sec ece
Back to the 560, I picked it up yesterday and so far so good. The smoking problem seems to have been cured with the new valve stem seals, and the chain / guides being done gives me a lot of piece of mind. It was only a 15 min drive back, but will take the car on an extended drive later to see if it is truly cured.

Re: 560sec ece
Thatís great news Bryce.

The chain and guide issue is now sure to give you some peace of mind.

I am very keen to hear how the smoke issue is as mine does exactly the same thing when quite hot after sitting at the lights.
A small puff of blue smoke when driving off.

What brand and grade of engine oil are you running in the 560?

Re: 560sec ece
Took the car out for a longer drive this evening. Night drives make it easy to see any smoke in the headlights of the car behind you at the lights, and I can confirm my 560 has quit smoking.

I've noticed how rough the paint felt on the car, so when I got back I tried the clay bar. The bar was well and truly used when I had finished but finally slid along the paintwork as it should.

Re: 560sec ece
Work continues on improving this car. I had the flex discs and motor mounts replaced last week and last night I replaced the under bonnet insulation mat.

I find hot English mustard has the best binding properties of the mustards.

Re: 560sec ece
Ohhhh man,
It binds me alright!

More than 24 hours later the English mustard seems to have bonded the pad to the underside of the bonnet quite well.

I will repeat this same procedure with the 300SE, which is also missing its pad.
